In Which We Jump Into June!

May was a marvelous, milestone filled month! We marked the end of two great CYT classes with very successful performances, Brooklyn turned six, and completed her kindergarten year. Great stuff! Things moved at a break neck pace as we moved from one event to the next, but I think this last week is the one that really takes the cake.

It started last Friday, Brooklyn's first day out of school. Mom and Ray, with "help" from me and the kids, moved Brooklyn into Grayson's old room and Grayson and Madi into Brooklyn's room. Then Ray and I got hit with major, terribly painful sinus infections. Now here is where I have to pause and toot the horn of my parents. Give Dad a hammer and point - he'll get those pictures up in no time! As for Mom, we may not always agree on matters of design, but she has a great eye, and even more importantly, she gets the job done!  They really are the best. So after all their great help, and with Ray and I feeling better, Mom and Dad left for a week in Texas and we started our week of relaxing, productive fun!

Brooklyn and Madi and I share a banana pudding milk shake. Yum!

Grayson tries floaties at the pool. That boy loves to swim!

Organizing the nursery with my "helpers".
Where's Grayson?

Brooklyn gives Achilles some "Diva" flair!

Grayson's way of taking out the trash - big helper!

Ride 'em cowboy!

An exhausting day!

The finished product...a corner for our Madi Mouse!
Now there are just a few more things to check off before our Madi makes her debut! I can't believe that before the end of the month, we will have our third baby home!

In Which I Welcome September

I adore September.  It's not what you're thinking. I'm not a big fan of pumpkin spice anything and I'm not counting down the days until Christmas, but I do love Fall and Winter. True, September 1st is not the start of fall, but it is the beginning of the end of summer.  In September I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  The end of the oppressive heat and ever fluctuating vacation schedules. Rhythms return to normal. Apples will soon be out in delicious abundance and yes, pumpkins will turn the world a lovely color of orange. Cooler weather and warmer drinks; September is beautiful and full of promise.

In Which We March On

March comes in a like a lion, what else? Still the snow, never melts! (If you're singing along to Seven Brides...you're right!) Where did that saying come from anyone? I get it. February was so mild, it felt more like spring than winter. Then just before spring actually arrives we get our only significant snow of the season! We had a great overnight snowfall, a real snow day, the kind where everything actually closes (my favorite!). Everything should have closed the next day too because of the winds and the drifts. Downright dangerous! But we made it through, alright. Aside from the weather, March was a whirlwind of activity. Grayson's sixth birthday, Jonah opened at Sight and Sound, Piercing Word/King's Kid's rehearsals, and Ray's birthday all kept me pretty busy. We have one more week to go during which we have Madi's birthday celebration for her preschool class (her birthday is in June - don't ask), Brooklyn's Broadway Studio showcase, our...

In Which the End is NIGH!

Wow.  Just wow.  It is very nearly the end of the school year.  I'm sitting here, counting up our April attendance and realizing that we only need to log seven more days to meet the state requirement. Seven. One week.  Our very first year to educate our children at home is coming to a close.  I'm a little floored. Of course we have more that I want to accomplish than can be done in seven days so we will go on a little bit longer, but still, it's nice to have the ducks in a row.   I can't say enough about how good  God is.  This year will go down in my memory as an unqualified success!  We have learned so much, not only academically, but about our family culture, balancing flexibility with boundaries, and how to serve the Lord in the nitty-gritty day to day stuff of life.  I think the hardest part is yet to come. State requirements dictate that we must create a portfolio, submit to an independent evaluation, and turn in documentatio...
