In Which We Get Going

Welcome to the start of a very busy week.  We have something (or more accurately some things ) going on every day, but I am feeling fairly positive about it.  Brooklyn broke out in hives over the weekend (at first we thought they were mosquito bites), so we spent Sunday evening at the urgent care center. Not quite the quiet Sunday evening at home that we had planned, but better safe than sorry! There are two theories regarding her hives. 1 -- she is allergic to something, likely environmental, and the hives were simply her reaction to it. 2 -- the hives are a residual affect of a bug or virus that she had (i.e. what we thought was food poisoning last weekend may actually have been something else). Unfortunately there is no way to know and really nothing we can do but watch and wait. She is a trooper!  I've been very convicted lately about my role as the Hilton Homemaker and the responsibility this job entails. Things are not super easy in our house right now as we try to figu

In Which I Plan...

I love and I hate menu planning.  I love the orderliness of shopping from a well thought out list, meeting my budget, and having a pantry and fridge stocked with delicious and nutritious things to eat.  I hate looking ahead at the week and trying to decide what we're going to eat and when. I know writing my plan down on paper does not lock us into anything -- it's a plan, not a commitment! But I can't seem to wrap my brain around that concept!  The same holds true for budgeting. I've never been able to get a real grasp on our monthly budget because of those few inconsistent expenses, like gas, grocery, utilities. To say that estimating is not my thing is an absolute understatement!!

In Which a Year Goes By

Can you believe I've been blogging now for more than a year? Wow! Okay, just kidding, that is absolutely not  what this particular blog is celebrating!  Our very own baby Gray has passed his annual milestone.  Grayson James Delano Hilton, born March 5, 2011 is now officially one YEAR old. Incredible!  Physically, Grayson, you are a stout little peanut. You fall close to the 50th percentile in terms of weight and height. You are still a baldy, with just the faintest trace of hair, mostly on the back of your head. (It makes for adorable bed head!) You have approximately eight teeth, top and bottom. I say approximately because you are in a biting stage and it is dangerous to put anything too close to your mouth!  You love all food, real food -- not that mushed up baby cr**, and you've developed a taste for strong flavors like lemon and pickle.  Your table manners are atrocious. You tend to scream and bang the table when you want more of something. It's a habit we are
