Ten Months Too Soon!

This post is a good 3 weeks late because I have been busy keeping up with a very active TEN MONTH OLD!!

Grayson James Delano,

At ten months old, you are still as sweet and tenacious as you could possibly be! Month nine was a huge milestone month for you because you started crawling, so I spent most of month ten mulling over and wondering (as in, being awe struck) about your personality.

While there is no doubt you are Brooklyn's little brother, I am amazed by the differences between the two of you.  She had no trouble snuggling down with me for a nap (in fact she preferred it!) while you insist on taking your good naps in your bed, where you have room to roll around as you please. Sometimes when you don't feel well you like to sleep with your head on my shoulder (or Daddy's), but those moments are few and far between!

Brooklyn hated the vacuum (still does!) but you LOVE it! You follow it around and want so desperately to do it yourself! I'm not sure anything scares you! One thing that absolutely irritates the snot out of you is being changed. Diaper or clothing! It certainly makes it a chore that neither of us enjoys!

You love the muppets on Sesame Street and the Batman theme song. Music in general is very appealing to you (as seen on the previous post, In Which We Dance!).

The very last week of your tenth month, you started walking! Tentative little steps quickly turned into real live, unsupported, sustained walking. You are still very shaky (you walk like E.T.) but your confidence grows daily.

Walking has also led to climbing.

You can get up the whole flight of stairs (with a grown up close behind you!) Observe how very proud you are for conquering the stepstool (2 minutes before you fell from it!)

It is delightful to watch your world expand and to be a part of the joy you experience with each new discovery and accomplishment!

In Which I Welcome September

I adore September.  It's not what you're thinking. I'm not a big fan of pumpkin spice anything and I'm not counting down the days until Christmas, but I do love Fall and Winter. True, September 1st is not the start of fall, but it is the beginning of the end of summer.  In September I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  The end of the oppressive heat and ever fluctuating vacation schedules. Rhythms return to normal. Apples will soon be out in delicious abundance and yes, pumpkins will turn the world a lovely color of orange. Cooler weather and warmer drinks; September is beautiful and full of promise.

In Which We March On

March comes in a like a lion, what else? Still the snow, never melts! (If you're singing along to Seven Brides...you're right!) Where did that saying come from anyone? I get it. February was so mild, it felt more like spring than winter. Then just before spring actually arrives we get our only significant snow of the season! We had a great overnight snowfall, a real snow day, the kind where everything actually closes (my favorite!). Everything should have closed the next day too because of the winds and the drifts. Downright dangerous! But we made it through, alright. Aside from the weather, March was a whirlwind of activity. Grayson's sixth birthday, Jonah opened at Sight and Sound, Piercing Word/King's Kid's rehearsals, and Ray's birthday all kept me pretty busy. We have one more week to go during which we have Madi's birthday celebration for her preschool class (her birthday is in June - don't ask), Brooklyn's Broadway Studio showcase, our...

In Which the End is NIGH!

Wow.  Just wow.  It is very nearly the end of the school year.  I'm sitting here, counting up our April attendance and realizing that we only need to log seven more days to meet the state requirement. Seven. One week.  Our very first year to educate our children at home is coming to a close.  I'm a little floored. Of course we have more that I want to accomplish than can be done in seven days so we will go on a little bit longer, but still, it's nice to have the ducks in a row.   I can't say enough about how good  God is.  This year will go down in my memory as an unqualified success!  We have learned so much, not only academically, but about our family culture, balancing flexibility with boundaries, and how to serve the Lord in the nitty-gritty day to day stuff of life.  I think the hardest part is yet to come. State requirements dictate that we must create a portfolio, submit to an independent evaluation, and turn in documentatio...
