Feels like forever since I have sat down to blog...so much to say...so much to catch up on...so many thoughts demanding a voice...deep breath. Okay.
We kicked off birthday season last week with a celebration of my sister, Jenna, who turned the big ol' 26. It was a simply sweet* celebration with a special fondue dinner and dessert, and of course Moscato wine. Yummy.
Then Tuesday was Grayson's second birthday. Many plans were in place for a full week of celebration, but the stomach bug attacked and we were down for the count! Grayson missed his party day at school, and I missed a full two days of party related errands. But the great thing about two year old birthday parties is that they are very laid back. So with a determined yet "no worries" attitude, I set off this morning (Ray, Grayson, and Madi in tow) to accomplish all the errands and bake the most fabulous candy train cake a little boy has ever set eyes upon.
I have to say, the party was pretty close to perfection. The cake turned out wonderful AND delicious (thanks in very large part to my support team of Nana and Aunt Jenna!!). We packed up and headed out to Marietta Square (where there is a giant train to play on!). The weather has been very weird lately, but were we blessed with a nice enough day. Cool and a little cloudy by the time we were out and about, but we were comfortable. We played on the train and watched the bustling of the square (a wedding and a bazillion prom photos - which btw, when did prom become a professional photography type of event? and while we're on the subject, when did prom dresses get a) very trashy/tacky and b) very neon? and furthermore, when did they start holding prom at the beginning of MARCH?? Okay, rant over.)
Anywhoodle (thank you Victory 91.5 for my new favorite word!), Grayson opened his presents and loved every one of them! Then we ate pizza and cake, played a little bit more and headed home to put tired kids to bed. It was great.
Two year old birthdays are so much fun and Grayson delivered in a big way. Every time we asked him about it or told him were were doing something for his birthday, he would respond with a very enthusiastic, "Yay!". We asked him how old he is and he says, "Two!". Absolutely everything is delightful and exciting and magical. He sat down on our picnic blanket and we started singing to him, and he knew in his soul that he was special and that everything we had done was just for him.
I may not ever open Jaime's Novelty Train Cakes or start my own party planning business, but I have just enough creativity and skill to come up with a little birthday magic for my kiddos, and I am especially thankful to have my army of elves (aka the family!) around to help me do it. How else would I know where to pipe the yellow icing?
P.S. This blog would be a thousand times better with pictures from the event, and yes, I do have them. Unfortunately I have run out of space on my free blog spot account and have not yet come up with a good solution for sharing photos and videos online. So until then, find me on Facebook for photos!
